Buyer guide
How to calculate landed cost for imported cosmetics.
The wholesale unit price is only one part of inventory cost. A consistent landed-cost model helps buyers compare products, routes, and order sizes using the same assumptions.
Capture every cost layer
Allocate shared costs consistently
Model more than one scenario
Start with the complete order value
Record product price, quantity, currency, bank or payment charges, discounts, sample credits, and any packaging or customization charges. Use the final purchasable quantity rather than a theoretical price tier.
If products come from several brands, keep each supplier or brand subtotal visible. This makes later allocation and discrepancy review easier.
Add costs incurred inside China
Possible China-side costs include domestic transport, warehouse receiving, counting, inspection services, storage, sorting, relabeling, protective packing, carton replacement, consolidation, and delivery to the export carrier.
Not every order needs every service. Ask which items are included in the product quotation and which will be charged separately.
Model international and destination charges
Add international freight, fuel or route surcharges, insurance where used, customs brokerage, duties, taxes, registration or notification expenses, port or terminal charges, local handling, and final delivery according to the destination.
Use a qualified customs or regulatory adviser for current destination charges and product obligations. Cosmetics classification, tax treatment, and route availability can vary by market and product format.
Choose an allocation method and keep it stable
Shared costs can be allocated by quantity, product value, weight, volume, carton, or a mixed method. Heavy liquids and lightweight high-value products may need different treatment if a single method distorts the commercial result.
Compare a test order, a replenishment order, and a larger consolidated order. The lowest landed unit cost is not always the best decision when it creates excess inventory or slow-moving shades.
What buyers usually ask
What is included in cosmetics landed cost?
A complete model can include product cost, China domestic charges, warehouse and packing services, international freight, insurance, duties, taxes, customs clearance, local handling, and delivery to your chosen location.
Should freight be divided equally across every cosmetics unit?
Not always. Allocate shared costs using a consistent method that reflects the order, such as value, weight, volume, cartons, quantity, or a documented combination.
Is this guide legal or regulatory advice?
No. It is a practical sourcing overview. Buyers should confirm current import, cosmetic, tax, and labeling obligations with official authorities or qualified advisers in the destination market.
Can Anmua help prepare a product shortlist?
Yes. Share your destination, sales channel, target price, categories, preferred brands, and estimated order volume for a focused sourcing discussion.
How do I request current commercial terms?
